The Brazilian Football Confederation is weighing a farewell match for Neymar after the forward retired from the national team. Brazilian outlet O Globo first reported the idea, noting that CBF officials view a tribute fixture as a fitting way to honor the Selecao’s record scorer. However, the federation stressed that discussions remain at an early stage and that no firm plan has taken shape yet.
CBF representatives confirmed to reporters that a farewell match is technically feasible. Still, no dates or opponents have been chosen so far since Neymar continues his club career. His contract with Santos runs through the end of 2026, so his long-term future in football stays unclear for now.
Neymar Farewell Match Talk Follows Emotional Retirement
Neymar confirmed his international retirement shortly after Santos edged past Universidad Central de Venezuela in the Copa Sudamericana. Speaking in the mixed zone at Vila Belmiro, he told reporters that his time with Brazil had ended. He added that he had given everything for the yellow jersey but no longer wished to continue representing his country.
The announcement followed weeks of speculation that began right after Brazil’s World Cup exit. Neymar’s final international appearance came in the Round of 16, where Norway eliminated Brazil 2-1 at MetLife Stadium.
