The Roman had a tricky getaway from the second row. Then he slipped to eighth through the opening corners. However, he launched his comeback almost immediately.
Lap by lap, Di Giannantonio clawed his way forward. Moreover, smart tyre management kept his pace strong late on. He eventually passed Marc Marquez and closed right onto the top five.
In the end, he crossed the line sixth, just over a tenth behind fifth-placed Pedro Acosta. Raul Fernandez, meanwhile, took a dominant win up front.
Morbidelli Digs In as VR46 Eyes Aragon
The Di Giannantonio British GP result lifts his championship account to 199 points. Remarkably, he now sits fifth, only 10 points behind second place. In fact, barely 10 points separate second from fifth overall.
Franco Morbidelli also enjoyed a solid afternoon. He started well from the third row and ran inside the top 10 early. Still, a late tyre drop-off blunted his charge. Consequently, the Italian-Brazilian settled for 11th, leaving him 16th in the standings on 53 points.
Team boss Pablo Nieto praised the effort at a circuit that never suited the bike. Nevertheless, he stressed the value of banking points and staying in the top-10 fight.
