Chaos ruled at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday, but when the dust settled, it was Fabio Di Giannantonio standing on the top step of the podium.
Two separate red flags brought the Catalan GP to a halt, each time resetting a race that felt like it was constantly on the edge of breaking apart. Di Giannantonio was caught up in one of those incidents himself, yet somehow regrouped, returned to the grid, and delivered when it mattered most.
Starting from the second row, the Roman rider had already shown strong pace across the weekend. At the third and final restart, riding on a soft tyre with tempered expectations, he pushed hard, made the decisive overtake, and held on for the win. It is his second MotoGP victory overall, following his Qatar 2023 triumph, and the first for the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team in 2026. The result lifts him to 3rd in the championship with 116 points.
Teammate Franco Morbidelli had a tougher afternoon. Starting from the front row, his rhythm was repeatedly disrupted by the stoppages, and a difficult final restart saw him lose ground. He clawed his way back through the field over 12 laps to cross the line 12th, which became 10th after penalties to riders ahead. Morbidelli sits 15th in the standings with 36 points.
Before the paddock moves on, there is a test day at Barcelona tomorrow, with Mugello and the Italian GP on the horizon at the end of the month.
