Marco Bezzecchi left Barcelona with more than just points. He left with control of the 2026 MotoGP World Championship.

The Catalan Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya delivered exactly the kind of race that can shake up a title fight. Red flags, crashes, penalties, and late classification changes turned the afternoon into one of the most unpredictable rounds of the season.

Bezzecchi originally crossed the line in sixth for Aprilia Racing after a difficult race that never really settled into rhythm. But the result changed after the flag, with six post-race penalties, including five tyre pressure penalties, reshuffling the final order. When the dust settled, Bezzecchi was promoted to fourth.

It was not his most dominant performance of the season, but it may turn out to be one of his most important.

His biggest title rival, Jorge Martin, had arrived in Barcelona just two points behind him. But Martin’s race ended early after contact with Trackhouse Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez, leaving the Spaniard with no points from a weekend that could have changed the championship picture in his favour.

Instead, the momentum swung the other way.

With the revised result, Bezzecchi now leads Martin by 15 points at the top of the standings. In a championship where every mistake can hurt, Catalunya became a reminder that survival can be just as valuable as speed.

The fight is still wide open, but after Barcelona, the pressure is firmly back on Martin. Bezzecchi did not need to win the race to make a statement. He just needed to stay in the game, and this time, that was enough.
