The Philadelphia 76ers announced Tuesday that they have signed center Tacko Fall, guard Jameer Nelson Jr. and forward Saint Thomas ahead of training camp. According to a source cited by ESPN, all three players received Exhibit 10 contracts, which let them compete for roster spots before potentially converting to two-way deals if they impress during camp.
Behind Embiid: Where a 7-foot-6 Center Fits
The 76ers sign Tacko Fall following a three season absence from the NBA, giving them another towering option behind All-NBA center Joel Embiid. Standing 7-foot-6, Fall previously played parts of two seasons with the Boston Celtics from 2019 to 2021, then appeared in 11 games, including one start, for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2021-22. Across 37 career NBA games, Fall has averaged 2.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 6.2 minutes per outing. Since leaving the league, he has played internationally in China and New Zealand, most recently with the Ningbo Rockets. Meanwhile, Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti currently sit behind Embiid on the depth chart, so it remains unclear whether Fall will crack the NBA roster or instead open the season with the Delaware Blue Coats, the team’s G League affiliate.
Nelson Jr. Follows His Father to Philadelphia
Beyond Fall, Nelson Jr., son of team executive vice president Jameer Nelson, who spent 14 seasons in the NBA, also joined the roster. The younger Nelson, a point guard, played five college seasons across George Washington, Delaware and TCU, and he most recently averaged 18.9 points, 3.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 47.5% from the field for the G League’s Stockton Kings last season. Meanwhile, Thomas, a 6-foot-7 forward who finished his college career at USC, has spent the past year with the Blue Coats after going undrafted. Consequently, all three additions arrive as Philadelphia enters the season with championship expectations following the offseason trade for Jaylen Brown and the free agent signing of LeBron James.
