Resilience and mental fortitude proved decisive at the TOYOTA Thailand Open 2026 in Bangkok, where Denmark’s Anders Antonsen fought back from a heavy first-game defeat to claim the men’s singles title on May 17.

Antonsen lost the opening game 9-21 against home favourite Kunlavut Vitidsarn in front of a vocal crowd at the Nimibutr Stadium. The Dane refused to buckle under the pressure, recovering to take the second game 24-22 in a tense extended contest before sealing victory with a composed 21-18 third game.

The 97-minute final tested both players physically and mentally, with Vitidsarn threatening to run away with the match in the early stages. Antonsen’s ability to adjust the pace and regain control during the middle and closing stages proved to be the turning point.

After the match, Antonsen described the victory as an incredible result, especially after losing to Vitidsarn in last year’s Thailand Open final. Vitidsarn also acknowledged the difficulty of the contest, noting Antonsen’s attacking approach and ability to control the court.

The BWF World Tour Super 500 event, which offered a prize pool of USD 500,000, brought together several of the world’s leading players at the Nimibutr Stadium. Antonsen’s triumph added valuable momentum to his 2026 World Tour campaign.
