Arsenal have wasted no time protecting the project that ended their 22-year wait for a Premier League crown. Mikel Arteta has agreed a new deal with the Gunners, and the BBC reports a sharp rise on his current terms.

His existing contract, signed in September 2024, was due to expire in the summer of 2027. Formal confirmation is expected during the current international break, once the paperwork is signed.

Arteta Contract Extension Rewards a Historic Season

The Spaniard arrived in December 2019 as Unai Emery’s successor and inherited a side drifting in mid-table. Nearly seven years on, he is the longest-serving manager across England’s top four divisions.

Last season showed why the board moved early. Arsenal collected 85 points to finish seven clear of Manchester City, then reached the Champions League final in Budapest. Paris Saint-Germain edged them 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The Arteta contract extension reportedly improves on a package worth £10m a year plus up to £5m in bonuses. It is expected to run through at least the 2029/30 season, taking him into a 10th year in the dugout.

Building Toward the Top of World Football

Arteta has never hidden the scale of his ambition. He has said the long-term aim is to make Arsenal the best club on the planet, and that the target is not up for debate.

Getting there, in his view, depends on daily habits that raise the odds of success. He also praised the drive of the club’s owners and stressed that staff, players and supporters must all pull in the same direction.

That alignment now has a longer runway. A bruising 3-0 loss at Brighton before the break showed the defence of the crown will not be smooth. The title answered old questions about Arsenal’s credibility. The Arteta contract extension turns attention to a harder one: can they win again, and finally conquer Europe?
