A team with no recognized center forward is somehow outscoring everyone else in Spain, and Sunday’s win over Levante only strengthened the case.
Hansi Flick’s side made it five wins from five in La Liga with a 4-2 victory at Levante, extending a run that already looks historic for Barcelona.
Barcelona’s Attack Spreads the Goals Around
The numbers back it up. Barcelona have scored 21 goals in five league games, more than four a match, and that tally jumps to 26 across six matches once the 5-1 Champions League win over Feyenoord is added.
Nobody has filled the traditional number 9 role this season, yet the goals have not slowed. Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi have combined for those 26 goal contributions between them.
Raphinha leads the way with eight goals and three assists, while Yamal has seven goals and two assists of his own. Fermin has chipped in four goals and two assists, Gordon has set up four goals without scoring himself, and Adeyemi has added three goals and an assist. Whoever starts, someone finds the net.
Real Madrid Leans on Mbappe
Real Madrid, now under Jose Mourinho, have also won five of six games, but their scoring tells a different story. They have managed 14 goals in five La Liga matches, a solid return but far short of Barcelona’s pace.
Kylian Mbappe has carried much of that load with seven goals and an assist. Vinicius Junior has one goal and four assists, Jude Bellingham has three goals and two assists, and Arda Guler has one goal and three assists. There is talent throughout that attack, but one player is doing most of the finishing.
Barcelona’s version spreads the responsibility across five players instead of one, so a quiet night from any single attacker rarely slows the team down. It is still early, and form like this rarely holds for an entire season, but right now Barcelona’s attack looks like the clearest advantage either side has.
