Federico Chiesa’s frustrating spell at Anfield has taken another hit. The Italian winger has been left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad for the second season running, according to British media reports.
Why Iraola Left Chiesa Off the List
Head coach Andoni Iraola opted to omit the 28-year-old from the league-phase roster. Chiesa has yet to feature this term due to injury, though he is expected back in group training later this month.
This is not new territory for him. Arne Slot also left Chiesa out of last season’s opening Champions League squad, only adding him as a replacement after Giovanni Leoni suffered a serious injury.
A Crowded Attack Leaves Little Room
Wataru Endo has also missed out on European registration this season. Liverpool face a tough league phase against Atletico Madrid, Porto, Inter Milan and Villarreal.
Federico Chiesa was linked with a summer exit but stays at Anfield until at least January. New arrivals Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola, plus Cody Gakpo’s sharp early-season form, have added serious depth to an already stacked wide attack in the Premier League.
Even once fit again, regular minutes will be hard to find. His long-term future at the club may well hinge on what happens in the winter transfer window.
For now, all eyes turn to whether Chiesa can force his way back into contention before the January market reopens.
