A raw, late-night message stopped Malaysian badminton fans in their tracks this week. Lee Zii Jia poured out a year of pain, doubt and quiet turmoil in a long social media post. Then he made one thing crystal clear. He is not walking away.
What Lee Zii Jia Revealed
The former world No. 2 held little back. He admitted the past year left him anxious, confused and deeply lost. Furthermore, injuries and poor form struck when he was already at an emotional low.
He also traced his troubles back to trust. After leaving the national team, he handed off-court matters to people he believed in. However, during his darkest stretch, he slowly realized many things were not what they seemed.
That realization drained him. As a result, his motivation to train faded, and thoughts of retirement crept in. Still, he found the courage to speak up and reclaim control.
Lee did not shy away from blame either. He admitted his own hesitation and naivety had hurt people around him. Therefore, remorse now sits heavily on his shoulders.
His wish, though, sounds simple. He wants to choose his own team, rebuild his environment, and enjoy the game again. Meanwhile, he thanked the loyal fans and sponsors who never left his side.
A Fighter Refusing to Fold
The numbers show how far he has fallen. His ranking tumbled to as low as No. 144 earlier this year. Yet there are green shoots too. Last month, he reached the semi-finals at the Canadian Open.
Lee admits he cannot say when the storm will pass. Even so, he refuses to retire lightly. No matter the criticism or defeats ahead, he plans to compete until his body simply will not let him.
For fans, the hope is obvious. Many long to see the 2021 All England champion rediscover his best. Until then, Lee Zii Jia keeps fighting, one match at a time.
