A rough start in Las Vegas could have derailed a rookie’s confidence. Instead, Alex Karaban responded with the poise of a proven veteran. His debut summer run quickly became a story of resilience.

Alex Karaban Summer League Journey Finds Its Rhythm

An ankle injury struck the UConn product just before the tournament. As a result, his opening games looked shaky. He shot 0-for-6 against the Clippers, then managed only four points versus Brooklyn.

However, the 29th overall pick soon flipped the script. Against Boston, Karaban dropped a team-high 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Moreover, he buried 5 of 7 from deep in an 82-76 loss.

His three-point touch had dipped late in his final college season. Therefore, seeing his stroke return felt especially encouraging. Then he added 14 points and two more triples in a 92-90 win over Charlotte.

Overall, the Alex Karaban Summer League stint produced averages of 10 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 27.5 minutes a night. Clearly, he adjusted fast once the chance arrived.

What Karaban Brings to Sacramento

Karaban credits much of his growth to coach Dan Hurley. In fact, he says Hurley reshaped both his game and his mindset. Once quiet and unsure, he grew far more outgoing under Hurley’s demanding standards.

Furthermore, Karaban wants to carry that culture to the Kings. He points to accountability as the ingredient most teams overlook. Teammates who challenge each other, he believes, ultimately grow closer.

He also felt Sacramento’s belief right away. The franchise traded up to land him, and that faith clearly meant everything. As a result, he arrives brimming with confidence.

Still, the real work starts now. This summer showing offers a promising stepping stone. Next, Karaban must turn that momentum into a reliable role in Sac Town.
