A packed Sachsenring crowd watched Fabio Di Giannantonio turn a strong Saturday into a real title statement. The Roman rider claimed third in the German GP Sprint. As a result, he closed to within touching distance of the championship lead.

Di Giannantonio Sprint Podium Tightens the Title Fight

Di Giannantonio launched well from the front row and held firm among the leaders. He had qualified third with a 1:19.188, so he lined up as a genuine podium threat. Across the 15 laps, he showed steady pace and strong consistency. Therefore, the podium rarely looked in doubt.

He crossed the line third for his fifth Sprint podium of the season. More importantly, the points lifted him to third overall on 184. He now trails the leader by just 13 points, the closest gap all year. In fact, the title lead sits mathematically within reach before the summer break.

Franco Morbidelli endured the opposite of his teammate’s Saturday. He started seventh after a sharp qualifying lap of 1:19.532. Meanwhile, he held station in the top 10 during the opening laps. However, his Sprint ended near half distance when he lost the front at Turn 13. Fortunately, he walked away unhurt from tenth place. The crash leaves him 16th in the standings on 43 points.

Mixed Feelings for the VR46 Duo

Di Giannantonio left the paddock satisfied with more championship points. He sensed extra pace late on, yet overtaking felt too risky as his front tyre overheated. Still, he rated third as a fair result on such a tight circuit. Looking to Sunday, he feels confident on the medium tyre.

Morbidelli found positives despite the fall. He praised his qualifying effort and accepted the race pace would always be tougher. Nevertheless, he insisted the team keeps improving and pulling together.

The German GP wraps up on Sunday with the main race at 14:00 local time. Di Giannantonio arrives with momentum and real belief. Consequently, the battle at the top of the championship could heat up even more before the break.
