Stephen Curry’s future with the Golden State Warriors is about to become official, and the numbers involved are staggering even by NBA standards.
According to U.S. media reports, Curry will become eligible to sign an extension with Golden State on August 29. At that point, he can sign a two-year, $136.7 million supermax deal, keeping him with the Warriors through the 2029-30 season.

Many around the league expect Curry to retire once this extension runs its course. He still has one year remaining on his current contract, worth $62.58 million for the 2026-27 season, making him the NBA’s highest-paid player.
Due to the league’s Over-38 Rule, Curry can only sign a two-year supermax extension with Golden State, capping the deal at $136.7 million. Last season, he still played at an elite level, averaging 26 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.15 steals and 0.38 blocks across 30.7 minutes per game. His shooting splits remained sharp too, at 46.1% from the field and 38.5% from three.
Warriors Roster Moves Raise Championship Questions
Despite the extension news, Golden State made no major roster overhaul this offseason. Instead, the Warriors used the No. 11 pick to select Axel Lundberg from the University of Michigan. The rookie forward has already impressed, leading Golden State’s Summer League team to a championship and earning Finals MVP honors.
However, one promising rookie alone may not be enough to push Curry back into title contention. Internally, the Warriors reportedly believe the 38-year-old has already achieved everything possible with the franchise, which has led management to hold onto its young assets rather than trade for immediate help.
Golden State also believes Curry will stay loyal to the franchise regardless of roster moves. Still, other contenders have shown a willingness to sacrifice future assets for their stars, and it remains to be seen whether the Warriors’ cautious approach will pay off in Curry’s final seasons.
