Consequently, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli arrive in Spain hoping to extend the positive momentum they built before the summer pause.
VR46 Aragon GP: Di Giannantonio Targets Title Push
Di Giannantonio sits fifth in the world standings with 199 points, just 10 points behind second place and 41 behind the championship leader. Therefore, the VR46 Aragon GP outing carries real title implications for the Italian, who has already tasted success at the venue, including a Moto3 podium in 2017. Meanwhile, last year’s race marked a turning point in his current campaign, adding further motivation heading into the weekend.
VR46 Aragon GP: Morbidelli Chases Renewed Form
The VR46 Aragon GP round is equally significant for Morbidelli, who has rediscovered confidence in recent races. Currently sixteenth with 53 points, he hopes to confirm that progress on a circuit where he has previously excelled, including a MotoGP win in 2020 and a Moto2 victory in 2017. Additionally, he narrowly missed the podium there last year, which raises expectations further.
Free practice begins on Friday, while qualifying follows on Saturday at 10:50 local time. The Sprint starts at 15:00 on Saturday, and the Aragon GP concludes on Sunday with lights out at 14:00.
Di Giannantonio said the team used the break to focus on fitness and additional bike training to stay sharp. He noted that Aragon differs significantly from Silverstone due to its slower sections and different grip levels, adding that last year’s struggles eventually led to a breakthrough on the test day that turned the season around. As a result, he believes the extra data gathered should make the team more competitive this time.
Morbidelli, meanwhile, described Aragon as a track with a distinctive atmosphere despite tricky, low grip asphalt. However, he expressed confidence given his past results there, including a win, and pointed out that the tyre allocation matches the previous Silverstone round, which he called encouraging ahead of the weekend.
