A chaotic start almost derailed Fabio Di Giannantonio’s Italian GP, but the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider refused to let it define his Sunday. Slotting back to 11th on the opening lap after getting boxed in from the second row, “Diggia” steadily carved his way through the pack and crossed the line 5th at his home circuit in Mugello.
The Roman rider’s charge was built on raw pace in the second half of the race, picking off rivals one by one as others faded. The result keeps him 3rd in the World Championship standings on 134 points, a position he has now held firm through another testing weekend.
His teammate Franco Morbidelli had a harder afternoon. The Italian-Brazilian got swallowed up in the early chaos and spent much of the race recovering ground rather than fighting for points, eventually finishing 14th. He moves up to 14th in the standings with 38 points, a small consolation from a weekend where his pace on Friday had hinted at something better.
Team Principal Pablo Nieto acknowledged the mixed feelings, noting Diggia had the pace to challenge the podium all weekend but a qualifying mistake cost him track position. For Morbidelli, the focus remains on rebuilding confidence and chipping away at the issues.
With a record crowd of 178,723 fans roaring them on at Mugello, both riders now shift attention to the Hungarian GP at Balaton Park Circuit, where the target will be simple: convert that raw speed into a result that hurts the championship leaders.
