The wait is finally over for one of the most dragged-out sagas in recent NBA memory. Late Monday night, on the eve of the 2026 Draft, Giannis Antetokounmpo got his ticket out of Milwaukee. The two-time MVP is heading to South Beach, and the Eastern Conference just got a serious shake-up.
Inside the Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Bucks shipped Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat. In return, Milwaukee lands a hefty package built around youth and picks.
The Heat are sending Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakučionis to the Bucks. Furthermore, Miami includes the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s draft. The deal also features unprotected first-rounders in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 pick swap, and a 2033 second-rounder.
Sources confirm this is a straight two-team swap with no third franchise involved. However, the paperwork will not be filed until July 6. As a result, more players or assets could still join the deal before it becomes official.
Why Miami Won the Sweepstakes
Boston pushed hard for the same prize. In fact, the Celtics and Heat were the two finalists in the race. Yet Miami’s offer ultimately swayed Milwaukee, and the Greek Freak is now a member of the Heat.
Despite an injury-hit campaign, Antetokounmpo still played at an elite level last season. He appeared in just 36 games, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists. Moreover, he stayed dominant on both ends of the floor.
Now he joins forces with Bam Adebayo for the 2026-27 season. Consequently, Pat Riley’s franchise instantly becomes a contender again. Heat fans, get ready.
