Jamal Murray Raptors Trade Framework Takes Shape
The Toronto Raptors are still waiting on the NBA to close its investigation into Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers before their agreed-upon deal for the forward can become official. Meanwhile, speculation is already building around a second blockbuster: a hypothetical Jamal Murray Raptors trade that would pair the Kentucky native with Leonard in Toronto’s backcourt.
Under one proposed framework, the Raptors would send Immanuel Quickley, Ja’Kobe Walter and a first round pick to Denver for Murray. Brooklyn would then absorb Jakob Poeltl and multiple future second round picks, while Minnesota would take on Moritz Wagner to help rebuild a frontcourt thinned out by this summer’s real trades of Julius Randle and Naz Reid.
For Denver, moving Murray would trim payroll and create room to retain restricted free agent Peyton Watson, whose contract talks with the Nuggets remain unresolved. Brooklyn, in turn, would gain a starting caliber center, and Minnesota would add frontcourt depth after an active offseason of roster changes.
What a Jamal Murray Raptors Trade Means for Toronto’s Ceiling
Toronto’s run ended last spring in a seven game first round series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, who eventually advanced all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. That performance showed a talented, confident roster that still needed one more difference maker to climb over the top.
Murray, an Ontario native born in Kitchener, would give the Raptors an accomplished playmaker with championship experience. A starting five built around Murray, RJ Barrett, Leonard, Scottie Barnes and rising big man Noah Clowney would offer rare two-way versatility. Consequently, Toronto could enter the season as a legitimate threat in a crowded East that already includes the champion New York Knicks and a reloaded Philadelphia 76ers roster.
Nothing about this framework is official, and it remains purely speculative. Still, if the Leonard deal finally clears, Toronto’s front office may not stop there.
